Motorcycles are arguably one of the more fun ways of commuting from one point to another. They are cheaper to maintain than cars, and are also more convenient for many. Riding a motorcycle provides a sense of freedom that perhaps no other means of transport does. Most motorcycles are a lot less complicated than cars and anyone who is interested in them can handle most of the maintenance work by themselves. Restoring a classic bike, however, is a completely different ballgame. If not done right, you may end up with an empty pocket and a motorbike that does not function properly.
Not As Easy As It Sounds
Motorcycle restoration can be very complicated and may require several months of work, depending on the availability of parts and amount of restoration required. Finding a set of piston rings for an 80 year old motorcycle is, indeed, easier said than done. However, those with passion and a sense of adventure do endeavor into the brave world of motorcycle restoration.
One man who does this for a living is Michael Kiernan. He runs a motorcycle restoration shop by the name of Kiernan Cycles just outside of Saint Louis University‘s campus. The shop has been there for over 14 years and is a motorcycle heaven that no one has noticed.
A New Home
Michael Kiernan says there is a very good reason he is running his business at this location. The people are very friendly and Michael knows all the local community of motorcycle enthusiasts. He is originally from Australia but calls Missouri his home now. His showroom is not open to public and he deals with only a selected number of customers. Kiernan is very proud of his work and has brought back many motorbikes way past their time. Motorcycle restoration takes a combination of skill, experience, perseverance, and passion, which only Kiernan Cycles can boast as having in this geographical area.
More than a Hobby
Restoring motorcycles can be a great hobby. It may take some time but if done with love and care, motorcycle restoration can be very rewarding. Michael Kiernan, however, does this as more than a hobby. That is why he has been able to create a little motorcycle heaven that needs to be noticed, right in the heart of America. Man and machine have a very special relationship as far as motorcyclists are concerned. Spending some quality time with your bike is a good way to relax, allowing you to spend the evening cruising on the freeway or going for a ride with your buddies.
Michael Kiernan has built a solid reputation as the guy who knows his motorbikes. He has been bringing them back from the dead for a long time, yet very few people have noticed the motorcycle restoration heaven that he has created. It takes great dedication and diligence to get to where Kiernan Cycles is right now. Every motorcycle, whether a 1913 Henderson or a 1921 Harley Davidson, that finds its way to Kiernan Cycles leaves with a new life breathed into it.
