Transalpina is a fairly new road that you'll find in Central Europe, in Romania to be exact. It reaches over 2000 meters altitude. As of 2015, it is asphalted 99%. The road is officially closed however because there are no safety balustrades. You may still see cars, truck, and bikes traversing it daily.
Bikers love this place and this road. 30 kilometers long, at its high altitude and even in the middle of summer you will meet snow, ice, strong wind and heavy rain. In minutes, you can go from 30 degrees Celsius with sun to cold temps under 10 degrees.
The view is great; the places are natural and savage. You may see deer, rabbits, eagles, bears, many sheep and even wolves. Along the road there are high quality, very comfortable places to sleep and restaurants with fresh food at low prices. Healthy, traditional foods, good wines, strong beer and shots, are on any menu.
Just do some web searches about Transalpina and you'll be amazed!
