There is a rich history of success and high performance of the Kawasaki’s Z family. Kawasaki has unveiled the 903 cc Z1 in 1973 which had an upright seating position, air cooled engine and made over 80 horsepower. These unique features truly blew the doors of many other bikes and the bike enthusiasts were crazy about the 903 cc Z1 during those days. But as the time passed there were many enhancements done and speed of the bike became more track oriented. The 903cc Z1 model was one of the most powerful models of Kawasaki which set many records, won many races and was by succeeded by Z1000 in 1976.
The foot pegs of the bike were pulled further back, for the production models fairings were introduced and handlebars were replaced by clip-on style controls. Kawasaki Z800 was introduced during 2012 in Europe and was considered as the best performance-packed model of Kawasaki. The Z family bikes from Kawasaki are considered as streetfighters, standards, nakeds and the list goes on for this.
And now Kawasaki has announced the Z900 in 2017 which is the new member of the Z family and it is ready to replace the outgoing Z800 with its unique features. The announcement of the Z900 was made at the Intermot 2016. Z900 has a new 948cc inline four-cylinder engine, Sugomi-inspired styling and trellis frame which is the perfect blend of power and comfort. Z family has always satisfied the performance and comfort for the riders. And we are truly excited to know about the all-new 2017 Kawasaki Z900 and what it has to offer.
2017 Z900 has shed some serious weight: In order to shed the weight of new Z900, engine and frame were the two main areas that engineers had to focus. Hence in order to cut weight, the subframe of the bike was removed and any scrap of metal was eliminated. The open-deck cylinder head and crankshaft were designed by keeping weight savings in mind. The trellis frame was redesigned and the engine produced more power with less weight. The new Z900 weighs lighter than Z1000 by 25 pounds and 46 pounds less than Z800 which is truly amazing. The result is a lightweight bike that has shed around 40 pounds.
Z900 offers new 948cc inline-four engine: The new Z900 is an ideal blend of handling and power that offers twin-spar trellis frame with a new 948cc inline four-cylinder engine. It is designed for linear and smooth power delivery and provides an amazing FI tuning along with smooth throttle response. It provides with a powerful and crisp response for the riders with great acceleration. The engine allows building useable torque due to a lightweight crankshaft design. Z900 has a light crank and engine is mounted to the frame that helps to reduce any vibration.
Features a perfect riding position with some adjustability: The new Z900 has flat and wide handlebars that provide with the great comfort to the riders. This bike has 31.3 inches seat height which allows the riders with shorter height to reach the ground comfortably when the bike is stopped. It uses inverted forks and horizontal shock that provides with damping and preload adjustments. The rear shock of the bike is placed away from the exhaust to avoid any impact by the radiant heat. The suspension of this bike is similar to the Z800 with four-piston Nissin calipers.
Redesigned trellis frame: The new Z900 has shed massive weight due to a new swing arm and the trellis frame which showcases the structural integrity. The Rear Suspension is placed above the swingarm that provides handling and agility. The trellis frame of the Z900 is 3 pounds lighter than the trellis of the 2017 Ninja 650 which weighs only 29.8 pounds. The bike features a new slip and assists clutch along with the four-into-one exhaust. The weight savings directly contributes to the handling characteristics and improve the performance of Z900.
Strong Braking power with five spoke wheels: 2017 Z900 has a dual-piston set of calipers along with petal-style rotors that provide with the great performance and mileage. It uses Dunlop D214 Sportmax tires that enhance the performance of the sporting machine with an increase in rotor circumference. Z lineup has always provided with the strong braking power and we expect the same from the Z900.
2017 Kawasaki Z900 is available in Metallic Flat Spark Black, Pearl Mystic Gray, Metallic Spark Black, Candy Lime Green, Metallic Spark Black and Candy Plasma Blue, Metallic Graphite Gray (Special Edition) and Metallic Flat Spark Black color schemes. It also allows choosing different frame sliders, seat cowl, seats, tail bag and tank bag from the accessories kit.
