Alta Motors Reveal Electric Street Tracker Motorcycle Concept

Alta Motors which is a startup electric bike company released their lightweight electric off-road motorcycle, the Redshift a few months back. And now they have come up with a new concept, the all-electric Street Tracker model. The new model shares some features and components with its siblings; Redshift MX and Redshift SM. The new street tracker Redshift ST concept bike is considered as a new citizen in the world of all-electric motorcycles and it could be one of the sweetest yet. With this new street tracker concept, Alta Motors has excelled in solving the styling problem with its minimalist approach.

Alta Motorcycles was founded by the trio of Jeff Sand, Mark Fenigstein, and Derek Dorresteyn. It started its life as BRD Motorcycles in the year 2011. Some of the investors of the company include Martin Eberhard and Mark Tarpenning who are the founders of Tesla Motors and the company managed to raise close to $ 17 million. Redshift was the first ever motorcycle of the company which later turned out to be the motocross and supermoto versions of the Redshift.

The Redshift ST features handlebars, carbon fiber flat track wheels, subframe and a new seat. WP shocks carry the suspension duties of the bike and the height of the seat is brought down by lowering the rear WP suspension. The Redshift SM is coupled with a 5.8kWh battery pack and draws power from a water-cooled 14,000rpm motor. The motor produces 49 Nm of torque and 40 bhp of power. The riding range of the bike is 80 km on a single charge.

The concept bike is based on Alta’s Redshift platform, with changes made to the lowered suspension, bodywork, addition of 19″ carbon fiber BST wheels and an LED headlight. The complete list of the specification has not been revealed by Alta but the Redshift ST will surely share the engine with the Redshift SM. As per the claims by the company the top speed of the bike is 105 kmph and can be fully charged in three hours. The carbon fiber wheels help to lower the suspension and aluminum frame keeps the weight down. The more details about the Redshift ST will be revealed by Alta motors in the next month or so.

Alta has not revealed the pricing of the bike and commitment to actually take the electric street bike into production. The ST won’t be available before 2018 if the production does get the green flag. The pricing of the bike will be higher than the other models, so guessing $15,500 will be close to the mark.
