Rt. 64: Mt. Morris to Savanna
Route 64 has long stretches of open straight highway that give you a chance to really open your bike up. Following the highway out of Mt. Morris and you’ll reach the town of Mt. Carroll. Here you’ll want to take a break to visit one of the most incredible haunted houses in America, Raven’s Grin. You should spend a little time looking around Mt. Carroll at the cobblestone streets, downtown, eateries, and the different variety of shops.
Continuing down Rt. 64 out of Mt. Carroll, you’ll ride along the Mississippi heading towards Savanna. According to other bikers, this stretch of Rt. 64 is one of their favorite roads to ride. The little town of Savanna is located along the Mississippi River and has been called Illinois' biggest biker destination because the town has it all. When you’re in Savanna, make sure you stop at Poopy’s - it has it all. From a “Pub n’ Grill” to “Tattoos n’ Piercing,” you’re sure to find something you like.
If you plan on spending any time in Savanna you’ll need a place to stay. Right outside Poopy’s you can pitch your tent for free. Otherwise, you can head over to Mississippi Palisades State Park and enjoy one of the top camping sites in the area. The park is home to beautiful hiking trails and huge campsites.
