India’s and the world's biggest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, has just unveiled its first ever fully in-house developed motorcycle. The bike, dubbed Splendor iSmart 110, was showcased on in February at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
This year, the Indian motorbike manufacturer didn’t just stop at the Splendor iSmart 110. They also unveiled three other two-wheelers: the premium segment sports scooter dubbed Xtreme 200 S, the design concept motorbike XF3R, as well as the electric bike Duet-E.
At the 2015 expo, Hero MotoCorp had unveiled two scooters, the Maestro Edge and the Duet. The two were the first bikes that Hero had ever developed on new platforms using their in-house technology.
In their marketing ad for the Splendor iSmart 110, Hero’s promo tagline says that all you need to do is to, "fill it, shut it and forget it!"
This tagline is considered by many to be the manufacturer's homage to their first 4-stroke 100cc motorbike that was unveiled in the 1980's, the Hero Honda CD100. That promotional tagline, plus the scooter's fuel efficiency, are believed to be the two biggest factors that catapulted the CD100 to a top bestseller of that era and beyond. In later years, Hero even went on to base the Splendor engine on that of the CD100 leading to a lot of success that pushed Hero to the top of the world when it comes to two-wheelers.
Powering the Splendor iSmart 110 is an air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke 110cc engine that has been mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
On the other hand, the Xtreme 200 S is aimed at showcasing Hero's directional guidance on its future products in the category of super-premium scooters. With its enhanced performance and guaranteed riding capabilities, the bike adds to its rear mono-suspension and elaborate safety features like ABS the power of an air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke 200cc engine equipped with a five-speed gearbox. With the XF3R, Hero gives a glimpse into their future design and development for performance sports motorbikes beyond 250cc while the Duet-E aims to offer Hero customers commuting comfort and convenience in an environment-friendly and cost-effective manner.
